Editor's Note
An excavation carried out in 2008 uncovered part of the ancient road running here from the Caravan Bridge towards the Smyrna Agora. The remains of houses and shops were found along the roadside. The area was settled in the Roman period and was turned into a cemetery during the Ottoman era, producing layers from different periods. The plan was to lay it out as an archaeopark, but this project has not yet been put into practice. Fenced off with wire, the area has begun to be covered with vegetation.
