Editor's Note
It is the only church in İzmir still in active use by the Greek Orthodox community. It is thought to have been a chapel attached to the Dutch Hospital, which is believed to have once stood opposite it (the Behçet Uz Children's Hospital now occupies that site). After the Aya Fotini Church burned down during the great İzmir fire, this church was leased for 100 years in 1952. Its garden contains numerous Ottoman-era graves belonging to the Dutch.
