Editor's Note
Located on Mithatpaşa Street in the Karataş quarter of İzmir, the Bet Israel Synagogue is the largest synagogue in the city. The Jewish community was granted permission to build it in 1905, and the synagogue was completed in 1907. Rabbi Abraham Palacci served as its hazzan after 1908, and the building was renovated in 1954. On 4 April 2019, the synagogue was targeted in a Molotov cocktail attack.
