According to the account of the businessman Husnu Ozyegin, his grandfather Husnu Ataberk, a migrant from Crete, made a vow that in response to the Greeks turning mosques into churches on Crete, he would convert a church into a mosque and open it for worship. He fulfilled this vow by purchasing the Orthodox Church of Agios Metamorphosis here, which had been used as a barn after the population exchange, and converting it into a mosque.
