Editor's Note
It was commissioned by his grand vizier Mehmet Sait Pasha for Abdulhamid II, who was to attend the opening of the Izmir Clock Tower that the sultan had built to mark the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne. However, since he never came, he had no chance to use it, and it was instead used as a hunting lodge by the grand vizier Mehmet Sait Pasha.
