Editor's Note
During the First World War, while the Entente fleet was bombarding Izmir between 5 and 15 March 1915, the artillery soldiers who were tasked with defending Izmir and fell as martyrs at Yenikale (Sancakkale) were buried here. Three martyrs rest in this cemetery. The tughra (monogram) of Abdulhamid II appears on the marble pedestal.
