Editor's Note
The Yogurtcu Castle is known to be one of the "Neokastra" built by the Byzantines in the late 12th and early 13th centuries against Turkish raids. Commanding a position overlooking the Gediz Plain, the castle was built on a large limestone formation. The mass on which the Yogurtcu Castle sits, unlike the surrounding volcanic texture, rises in the form of a steep-sloped, hard-to-climb cone with no connection on its eastern, western, or northern sides. The Yogurtcu Castle consists of an inner keep and outer walls surrounding it on the east, west, and south.
