Editor's Note
Because the tomb just below the statue of Belek Gazi in the Kayabasi area of the Harput neighbourhood bears no inscription, its construction date is not known with certainty. The tomb is single-roomed and octagonal, with an interior barrel vault and a low lead-clad dome on the outside. Besik Baba, the man who gave his name to the tomb, was martyred together with his wife and child during the Arab invasion of Harput. It is said that the cradle (besik) in the tomb belonged to the child and that the tomb took its name for this reason.
