Editor's Note
The Elazig Idadi (high school) opened in AH 1303 (1885-1886), during the tenure of Elazig Governor Haci Hasan Refik Bey. The rustiye (junior secondary) building that existed at the time served as the idadi when it opened. From its opening until AH 1323 (1905), it operated as a day idadi. By a decision taken in 1905, it was converted into a boarding school, and in the 1909-1910 academic year it became a sultani (lycee). In 1915 it was used as a military building. Over time the building also served as Elazig Middle School and Elazig High School, and today it is a military headquarters building.
