Editor's Note
It was discovered in 2023 by the owner of the field while planting saplings in the village of Salkaya in Elazig. Following work on the 84-square-metre mosaic and its surroundings, the floor mosaic is thought to date to the Late Roman and Early Byzantine periods. The floor mosaics depict animals such as the Anatolian leopard, wolf, boar, mountain goat, deer, and greyhound, along with figures relating to the region's tree cover. New excavations around the mosaic have also brought to light various wall remains and structures thought to have served as a church and a wine workshop.
