Mercimekkale Mound is an archaeological site located 22 km north of Muş city center, on the east bank of the Murat River. One of twenty-eight mounds within the borders of Mercimekkale village, it contains a fortress from the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) period built for communication, postal and observation purposes.
