Editor's Note
Sertavul Han stands at the Sertavul Pass between Karaman and Silifke, at a high point of the Taurus Mountains. The caravanserai occupies a strategic position on the old route linking Central Anatolia to the Mediterranean. The Sertavul Pass becomes snowbound in winter, making passage difficult, which is why caravanserais were built on both the Mut and Karaman sides. Although the exact date of construction is unknown, many researchers believe it dates to the reign of Alaeddin Keykubad I. This is also the pass that Holy Roman Emperor Barbarossa crossed during the Third Crusade.
