The underground city was first identified in 1975 and opened to visitors in 1991. Besides the underground settlement at the Kale locality, there are many churches, but most of them have collapsed due to natural causes. The underground city, whose original entrance door has collapsed, can be entered from two points on the west side. The underground city spreads over quite extensive areas, but only a small part has been cleared. Currently two levels can be visited.
