Editor's Note
The settlement located in Hamidiye neighbourhood of central Mucur district is one of our country's important historic underground cities. It was built in the early Christian era, in the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. It is understood that Mucur was, in these periods, one of the principal cities of the Christian world in the Cappadocia region. The underground city is known to have been built to protect the population during wars and raids in the Roman and Byzantine periods. Carved into soft rock at a depth of 7-8 metres below ground, the Mucur Underground City is estimated to extend as far as the vicinity of the Aşıkpaşa Tomb in Kırşehir.
