Editor's Note
Known as Turkey's first sugar factory, it was founded as a joint-stock company by Mehmet Hacım and his associates, leading citizens of Uşak. It was an important milestone in the founding and development of the Republic, with the whole population of Uşak contributing to its establishment. The factory was later renamed after one of its founders, Nuri Şeker, and remains in operation today.
