Editor's Note

The Great Kapıkaya Monument lies 6 km southeast of the town of Döğer, in the İhsaniye district of Afyonkarahisar, and 1.8 km southeast of the Aslankaya Monument. It sits on a rock outcrop about 50 m north of the Döğer–Üçlerkayası road. The smoothed front face of the rock bearing the niche is decorated with geometric patterns that, owing to weathering, can be made out only in suitable light. Unlike the other façades, it has no pediment, but an acroterion can be seen above the niche. Because of this decoration on the façade, it is known locally as Halılı Kaya ("Carpeted Rock"). The monument was seriously damaged by treasure hunters in 1996.
