It stands on Çiğiltepe, 1,591 metres high, to the southwest of Afyonkarahisar and southeast of the Sinanpaşa district, 18 kilometres from the district centre. On 27 August 1922, Colonel Reşat Bey, commander of the 57th Division charged with taking Çiğiltepe, gave his word to Commander-in-Chief Gazi Mustafa Kemal that he would capture the hill within half an hour; when he could not keep his word, he took his own life by putting a pistol to his temple.
