Editor's Note
Çeçeli Kara Murat was a young man who lived in the village of Çamsu, then called Çeçe, in the Banaz district of Uşak, earning his living as a shepherd. In 1922, the Greek Army of Asia Minor, shattered at the Battle of the Commander-in-Chief, was desperate to reach İzmir. They came upon a gaunt, hungry, and wretched shepherd grazing his sheep on the slopes of Mount Murat. They asked him to lead them to the Afyon–İzmir railway.
