Editor's Note
The Van Museum, also known as the Urartu Museum, presents a large archaeological and ethnographic record of the Lake Van region from the Stone Age to the present. Its origins go back to a depot established in 1932, and it now occupies a new building northeast of the Van Fortress, opened to visitors in 2019. The main focus is the Urartian period, and among its notable holdings are the Hakkari kurgan stelae.
