Editor's Note
The Horhor Gardens have endured for centuries and take their name from the natural spring water that rises from the foot of the castle. Used as a centre by different civilisations over the centuries, the area is today registered by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change with the status of a "natural site / qualified natural conservation area." The fact that the Horhor Gardens appear in Matrakçı Nasuh's miniature depicting the city of Van proves that the area has existed at least since the first half of the 16th century. The gardens, which charge an entry fee, are sadly under serious threat.
