Editor's Note
The caravanserai bears the same name as the village in which it stands; its other name is the Hoca Mesud Caravanserai. According to the account in the Agzikarahan inscription, construction was begun in 1231 by Hoca Mesud bin Abdullah, one of the wealthy merchants, and completed in 1239. The Agzikarahan Caravanserai appears in the 1952 film Toprak 1. The Agzikara Han, on the Aksaray-Nevsehir route, is a historic caravanserai consisting of an enclosed section with a near-square rectangular plan and a square courtyard to its south. The enclosed section was built in 1231 by Alaeddin Keykubad, and the courtyard in 1237 by Keykhusraw II.
