Editor's Note

The madrasa bears no inscription naming its builder, patron, or date of construction. However, the abjad reckoning of the Quranic inscription over the crown portal yields the date 1337-38 (AH 738). Since Sucaeddin Mirza Halil Bey occupied the Karamanid throne at that time, it is suggested that he had the madrasa built. The fact that Cemaleddin-i Aksarayi served as a teacher here adds to the building's importance. It was used as a madrasa until 1918, then turned into a prison during the years 1930-41.
