Editor's Note
The caravanserai within the Soğanlı archaeological site has a near-rectangular plan and was built by carving into the rock. Its entrance façade, cut into the hillside, was later walled up and for a time used as a dovecote. On the north façade is a rectangular courtyard surrounded by blind niches, and behind this courtyard are two barrel-vaulted rooms. Above the niche arches runs a plain cornice, and above that is a natural rock outcrop about three metres high. The rooms are divided into three sections by transverse arches rising from piers.
