Editor's Note
The Silata – Ayii Apostoli (Church of the Twelve Holy Apostles), in the village of Özlüce in the Derinkuyu district, was built on 16 March 1849, during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I, with funds raised by the Greeks then living in the village. Constructed with two storeys and a wooden gallery, the church was abandoned when the Greeks left the village after the 1924 population exchange. In 1935 it was purchased from the treasury for 500 lira by the immigrant Rıfat Bey and donated for use as a mosque. The building functions today as the Özlüce Village Old Mosque.
