Editor's Note
Built at Teos, the largest Temple of Dionysus in Anatolia stands on the western edge of the Hellenistic-period city wall. According to Vitruvius, the famous architect of the Augustan era, the temple's architect was Hermogenes of Priene (Güllübahçe/Söke). Built in the Ionic order in three sections, the temple follows a conventional plan, yet the trapezoidal shape of the temenos wall surrounding it is unusual. The Temple of Dionysus is a peripteral Ionic temple with six columns on its short sides and eleven on its long sides.
