Editor's Note
First commissioned in 1645-1646 by Ahmet Ağa, the fountain was converted into a monumental form by the Urla Municipality in 1923 with the addition of a column on top. All four faces bear inscriptions. "This place was revived by Hacı Ahmed Ağa; I hope these waters bring it lasting good. With the addition of an elif, Bâkî recorded its date: a fountain of the water of life, the work of a flowing spring. Year 1055." "We parted and grieved / We united and were saved. 12 September 1328." "Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation. Constitution, Article 1."
