The Kara Ağaç Seljuk Alperen Cemetery is a historic burial ground in the Çataloluk neighborhood of the Develi district of Kayseri, on the bank of the İkizler Stream, a tributary of the Zamantı River, bearing the traces of the first Turkmen tribes to reach Anatolia. Regarded as one of the oldest records of the beliefs of Muslim Turks concerning death and the afterlife, the cemetery was over time enriched with gravestones from the Ottoman and early Republican periods. Its most striking feature is a registered monumental black poplar, about 750 years old, whose trunk has grown around two gravestones.
