Editor's Note
See Dr. Ender Ozbay, Turkish-Period Bridges in the Buyuk Menderes, Kucuk Menderes and Gediz Basins (pp. 300-302). It is said to have been built in the 19th century by an Armenian tailor at the order of Tahir Pasha, the tax collector of Aydin. This harsh-tempered pasha, feared by the people, was himself quite wary of his wife. One day the pasha's wife saw the wife of an Armenian tailor and envied her fine clothes. She reproached Tahir Pasha, saying that even a tailor's wife dressed more beautifully than she did.
