Editor's Note
It is the oldest of the surviving mosques in Aydin. It was badly damaged in the 1899 earthquake and repaired by Haci Halil Pasha of Soke. Damaged again by fires during the War of Independence, it was repaired in later years. The marks of two bullets fired by a Greek soldier during the war can still be seen on the 'mashallah' inscription above the entrance. Beside the mosque are two marble graves, moved to their present location when the ruined medrese next to the mosque was removed and a road was driven through the site.
