During the War of Independence, while Aydin was under occupation, the Greek commander Bakoyannis asked for honey through a collaborator known as Sari Imam, who came to the village of Arapli. When the villagers refused to hand over honey, Sari Imam returned and reported that they were cooperating with the Efe rebels. Soldiers sent by Bakoyannis then gathered twelve of the village's men in the square, hanged them from a tree, and shot them.
