It was commissioned by Hacı Sinanoğlu Hacı Kemal. It is one of the first mosques built after the conquest of Istanbul. Because it stands next to the Tire Bedesten (covered market), also known as the Old Silk Merchants' (Kazazlar / İpekçiler) Bazaar, it became famous as the Gazazhane Mosque.
