Editor's Note
Kartaltepesi Castle is a registered archaeological site located on Kartal Tepe (Eagle Hill), a commanding position overlooking the surrounding area within the boundaries of Dağyeni Village in the Germencik district of Aydın province. Documented by REGIO Cultural Heritage Management Consultancy, the castle most likely dates to the Hellenistic and Roman periods based on its architectural features and surface finds. Measuring roughly 300 by 80 metres, the settlement consists of wall remains from an earlier defensive structure and reused (spolia) stones, and by its layout and location it has the character of a garrison settlement.
