Editor's Note
The Tomb of Nasreddin Hodja stands over the grave of the famous humorist Nasreddin Hodja, who died in Akşehir in 1284. The area around the grave was later turned into a mausoleum; the structure, formed of two nested baldachin sections, was covered in 1878 with a pyramidal cap carried on twelve columns. Its open sides, with only one side closed by a padlock, are seen as a reflection of Nasreddin Hodja's sense of humor. Besides Nasreddin Hodja, the tomb also holds the grave of Habibe, daughter of Sultan Mehmed I.
