Editor's Note
Erythrae (Erythrai) was one of the twelve Ionian cities of Asia Minor, set on a small peninsula about 22 km north-east of the port of Çeşme and directly opposite the island of Chios. The peninsula was noted for its excellent wine, and the city was famous as the seat of the Erythraean Sibyl. Its ruins lie north of the town of Ildır in the Çeşme district of İzmir Province.
