Pteleum (Pteleon) was a fortified coastal town in the territory of Erythrae, in Ionia. It was a member of the Delian League, appearing in Athenian tribute records between roughly 450 and 429 BCE. Thucydides places it within Erythrae's territory as a fortified stronghold, used in 412 BCE by the Athenian army under Leon and Diomedon as a base to attack positions on Chios; that winter the Spartan commander Astyochos attacked Pteleum but failed to take it. Its site is sought near Karareis-Meli, in modern İzmir Province.
