Editor's Note
The Alaçatı Pazaryeri Mosque was begun in the 1830s by Yuhannis Halapes and was opened for service as a church in 1874. It is known that the church was converted into a mosque shortly after the proclamation of the Republic. The building, with three naves and a basilical plan, was built using the rubble-stone masonry technique. One of three large churches built for the Greeks, this is the only one that has survived to the present day.
