It was built between 1968 and 1970 by Nezir Kaya so that he could see his beloved Tinika on the island of Chios. Kaya, who had been accused of espionage and imprisoned in both Greece and Turkey, tried many ways to see his love, and built this 30-metre-high tower from the stones of the ruined Greek houses nearby. In memory of Nezir and Tinika's love, a Love Festival is held in this area every year, and the film "Kayıkçı" (The Boatman), starring Mehmet Ali Alabora and Katerina Moutsatsos, also tells this story.
