Editor's Note
Süleyman Şah came to head the Germiyanoğulları principality in 1363. As the third ruler of the Germiyanoğulları, he married his daughter Devlet Hatun to Yıldırım Bayezid, giving the lands of Kütahya, Tavşanlı, Simav and Eğrigöz (Emet) to the Ottomans as her dowry. In 1378 he withdrew to Kula and made it his capital. A patron of education and culture, Süleyman Şah protected scholars throughout his reign, and works were dedicated to him in return - Mercimek Ahmed's Kabusnâme and Şeyhoğlu Mustafa's Merzebannâme being examples.
