Editor's Note
Some seven hundred hectares of cultivated, fertile and irrigated land beside the Tigris in Diyarbakir, lying between the river and the Diyarbakir Fortress walls. Fed by springs on the slope below, the gardens played a vital role in keeping the walled city provisioned with food and water. Together with the walls of Diyarbakir, they were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.
