The Sheikh Ali Cemetery lies within the area east of the Tigris River in the centre of Hasankeyf, known among local people as the Sheikh Ali Lodge (tekke). The area around the tomb, thought to belong to a mystic saint or sheikh, gradually turned into a cemetery, but most of the structures have come down to us ruined, and the headstones survive broken and illegible. The cemetery continued to be used for burials until recent times.
