Editor's Note
The Hasankeyf Bridge stands in the town centre. As it bears no inscription, its exact date of construction is unknown, but its architectural features and figural decoration place it in the Artuqid period, which is why it is also called the Artuqid Bridge. It has the widest arch span among bridges built in the Middle Ages, the central main arch spanning 40.32 metres. Built of basalt and cut stone, the bridge was designed on a right-angled plan sloping to both sides, with six arch openings.
