Editor's Note
The Kaya Mosque, within the boundaries of Kantar village in the Gercus district of Batman, was built by carving into a rocky area. Near-rectangular in plan, the mosque has two entrances on the north side, and a mihrab carved into the rock on its south face. A small minbar was built on a platform formed in the rocky floor. Measuring about 10 by 6 metres, the mosque draws attention with its plain plan and rock-cut architecture.
