Editor's Note
The Pursuit Gate (Takip Kapisi) has square towers on either side and an arched entrance in the centre. Above the arch is the face of a sarcophagus carved in relief with figures of Eros. In the 1800s, beside it there were other reliefs depicting fleeing young women and armed men illustrating Odysseus's recognition of Achilles; these were taken to England around 1852 and are now displayed in the gallery at Woburn Abbey. European travellers who saw these reliefs in place misinterpreted the decoration and gave the gate the name "Pursuit Gate."
