Editor's Note
It was built by the Greeks in 1821 over a church that stood here. After the church in Demre, it is the second church in Anatolia built in the name of Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus). In its construction, marble, finely cut stone and rubble stone were used, along with spolia brought from the nearby ancient city of Priene. Although it was used as a mosque for a time after the population exchange, no alterations were made to the building during that use. It later fell entirely out of use. While the church, the bell tower and the ossuary (osteophylax) all require urgent repair, the structure stands intact as a whole.
