Editor's Note
Through repairs and additions it has lost almost all of its original form. Its inscription reads: "Lady Haci Hatice, gracious and generous, built this house of worship as a refuge for the devout. These are the gardens of Eden; enter them to dwell forever. O servants of God, rise and worship in humility and devotion. The Truth declared: there is no reward for good deeds save for the effort made. With the labour of Ibrahim Aga this mosque was raised high. He built it purely for the sake of God; may God bless and prosper him. Read the date with discernment: 'A pure heart and five daily prayers.'" By abjad reckoning, 1067 (1656-57).
