Editor's Note
In his work Geographika, Strabo writes: "Sailing from near Mount Mykale through the Strait of Samos toward Ephesus, on the right we come to the coast of the Ephesians. Part of this coastline is held by the Samians. On the coast there is first the Panionion, lying three stadia inland from the sea. This is the seat of the league called Pan-Ionia, where the Ionians hold their traditional festivals each year, sacrifices are offered in honor of the Heliconian Poseidon, and the people of Priene serve as priests at these ceremonies. Then comes Neapolis, which formerly belonged to the Ephesians."
