Built in 1910 by the wheat merchant Yusuf Şar, a Maronite Christian, the mansion served during the War of Independence as a corps command headquarters and a military hospital, and later as the French Consulate, a girls' middle school, and a coeducational middle school. Since 2012 it has been the Girls' Vocational Maturation Institute.
