Editor's Note
There is no certain information about when Konya's Outer Castle (the city walls) was first built, to what extent the Seljuks found these walls standing, or the phases of the walls during the Seljuk period, and the matter awaits excavation. However, considering that Konya enjoyed a flourishing Roman period and, given its position on the road network, its commercial fabric, and its importance as a religious center in the early years of Christianity, the existence of the city's outer fortifications in the Roman period comes readily to mind.
