Editor's Note
Located to the east of the Konya Station building, this hotel was built in 1895. After the 1924 population exchange it was given to the Hıfzı Hamide Günas family, who came from Vardina near Thessaloniki, and for a time it was used as a Military Transport School. One of its shops became a post office. Later it once again became a hotel, the İstasyon Palas. Abandoned in the 1980s, the building has fallen into considerable disrepair. The stonework on its facades, its Baroque window arches, the keystones of those arches, and its wrought-iron grilles reflect the influence of 19th-century European architecture. The hotel is accepted to have been built in 1895, the years when the Baghdad Railway reached the city.
