Editor's Note
Standing in the center of Çatak, on a hill south of the stream and surrounded by a cemetery near the prison, this church is known locally as Hişet Church. Although regional Christian manuscripts trace the church's origins as far back as the 3rd century, its architectural style places the building in the late 17th century. The single-nave, rectangular structure has an east front built wider than its west front. The interior is divided in two by a central arch and covered with a barrel vault. The entrance is on the west front, while the east end holds a deep apse that does not project outward, flanked on either side by priests' cells.
